Mental Health First Aid for Community Settings
This Mental Health First Aid course will teach you how to provide initial support to other adults who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis, using a practical, evidence based Action Plan.
Many of our service users can add trauma, abuse or significant difficulties in life to the range of issues that may add to the likelihood of mental health concerns. We need to be able to recognise, support and respond in a way that supports people with mental health issues.
This course is based on guidelines developed through the expert consensus of people with lived experience of mental health problems and professionals. You will learn about providing initial support to other adults who may be experiencing a mental health problem or a mental health crisis, using a practical, evidence-based Action Plan, as well as the signs and symptoms and what to do if you are worried about an adult who may be experiencing:
Mental health problems:
- Depression and anxiety
- Eating disorders
- Psychosis
- Substance use problems
Mental health crises:
- Suicidal thoughts and behaviours
- Non-suicidal self-injury
- Panic attacks
- Traumatic events
- Severe psychotic states
- Severe effects from alcohol or other drug use
- Aggressive behaviours
Plus an online quiz if you which to became an Accredited Mental Health First Aider.
Who should attend?
The workshops are open to all professionals working in the AOD setting. Participants should be actively engaged in delivering AOD care and support including:
- Rural/regional Health
- Aboriginal Health
- Lived and living experience (peer) workers
- Mental Health
- Nurse and Nurse Practitioners
- Allied Health
- Alcohol and Other Drugs worker
This course is blended delivery to attend the workshop you must complete an online self-paced e-learning program ( takes between 5-7 hours).
The second part of this course is instructor lead online. Once you have applied for this workshop CCWT will organise your enrolment to the online e-learning module. This must be completed to complete the instructor led training.
