More than ever before, we need to be working in partnership with carers of children who have experiences of trauma and neglect.

This course will explore the importance of partnering with carers to strengthen confidence and therapeutic care skills and knowledge, recognise the skills and expertise they already have and support carers to have safe and secure relationships with children.

Be part of the positive process of strengthening carer capacity to make a difference for children and young people and their carers.

At this workshop you can expect to:

  • Determine how to approach and define carer capacity in the context of their role.
  • Use therapeutic principles in a coaching framework to guide carers in exploring their approaches to the care needs of children and young people, with a focus on supporting children and young people who are being restored to the care of their family.
  • Match carer needs to professional development opportunities within their caring context.
  • Use tools to engage and build on carer capacity including resilience.
  • Develop a shared language with carers to enhance the quality of their care and establish mutual accountability
  • Take away resources to enhance and build on your current practice
  • Determine ongoing support and learning needs

Who should attend?

Case workers and Team Leaders who support the learning and development of new and existing foster and relative and kinship carers.
