Effective group facilitation is the art of assisting both the group as a whole, and its individual members, to learn, grow and develop. This requires much of facilitators including: developing and structuring programs; determining the most suitable
learning methods; creating a safe and supportive environment; recognising when to lead and when to follow; understanding group processes; responding to group dynamics; effectively utilising activities; mastering audio-visual equipment; and so much more. This highly interactive and practical workshop will develop your knowledge and skills in all these areas.

Following day 1 participants will have 2 weeks to imbed their learning by preparing a session that they will facilitate for the group on day two.

Anybody who facilitates groups or delivers training.

Learning Objectives

This workshop will provide participants with the opportunity to:  

  • Assess their current presentation skill level
  • Examine the role of the facilitator
  • Explore ways to create a safe group environment
  • Discuss adult learning principles and group process
  •  Examine and write learning objectives
  • Discuss and write a lesson plan
  • Discuss a wide range of learning methods and activities
  • Explore and apply strategies for engaging participants
  • Develop a range of strategies to respond to challenging participants
  • Examine how to risk assess a program and how to effectively set up higher risk
    content and/or activities
  • Examine how to respond to individual and group distress
  • Discuss strategies for effective co-facilitation
  • Examine and apply the effective use of audio-visual equipment
  • Consider factors in choosing a suitable venue and appropriate room configuration
  • Explore strategies to promote facilitator wellbeing and sustainability
  • Prepare a session that they will deliver to the rest of the group on day 2
