Mel Harrison has qualifications in Community Welfare and has extensive experience providing training to people with disability. For the past 16 years, Mel has worked within the disability sector on issues such as domestic violence, homelessness and raising disability awareness. Mel has also investigated matters relating to abuse and neglect towards people with disability across Australia and has provided advocacy support to people with disability across NSW.
In her current role as training officer at People with Disability Australia (PWDA), Mel delivers a number of training packages across Australia. Her expertise includes providing training to people with intellectual disability, service providers, non-government organisations, local governments and other government agencies.
Mel has significant expertise training professionals on topics such as: Recognising and Responding to Domestic Violence; Disability Awareness; Responding to Sexual Assault; Responding to Abuse and Neglect; Legislation training on the CRPD; Sexuality training; and Advocacy Training.
She also has experience delivering training packages to people with disability, including: Working with women with intellectual disability on how to respond to Domestic Violence; Rights, Respectful Relationships, Sex Education, Sexuality; Responding to Abuse and Neglect and Boarding House regulations training.
