Julie is a Psychologist with over 25 years' experience in the disability sector. Throughout her career she has worked extensively with people with complex needs and challenging behaviour, initially within the Public Sector, and since 2003 as a private consultant.
Julie provides direct services involving the assessment of clients' accommodation, behaviour and lifestyle support needs; the development of behaviour intervention and support plans; and staff training for some of the most complex and challenging clients. This involves working closely with agencies, staff, parents and other stakeholders. She also provides direct supportive counselling and intervention to clients, ranging from anger and anxiety management counselling, to grief counselling, the support and debriefing of clients following critical incidents.
Further, she has been involved in a number of collaborative projects with Dr Meredith Martin and Ms Mary Ellen Burke. Many of the Projects have required a thorough analysis of the systemic issues affecting the provision of services to people with a disability and complex needs. In addition, a high degree of sensitivity and consideration of the industrial and political context as well as professional and emotional components for staff, families and service users has been required.
